The recurring revolution
There’s an old song by Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks called, How Can I Miss You When You Won’t Go Away? I believe we have reached that point with the “No Kings/Indivisible” movement.
Shoppers, businesses and drivers have been subjected to the weekly harangues of these “protesters” for over a year now. We get it. You hate the President of the United States. You think he’s Hitler.
But normal people have things they need to do in downtown Wakefield on Saturday mornings, and negotiating a gauntlet of ancient agitators reliving their glory days isn’t one of them.
Fun’s fun, but the local protesters have been standing on the corner of Main and Water streets at least since March of 2025. That’s over 60 consecutive Saturdays. That’s not commitment. It’s mania. The time may have come for an intervention.
Everybody supports free speech, but the law of diminishing returns is real. That point has been reached. You have convinced everyone who can be convinced. Mission accomplished. Company dismissed.
Instead of spending your golden years badgering ordinary people at the behest of billionaire Bolsheviks, wouldn’t you rather be home enjoying your grandchildren? I’m sure young Julius and Ethel miss you terribly.
The “No Kings” protests fall under the umbrella of a national movement called “Indivisible.” The name “Indivisible” comes from the Pledge of Allegiance: “One nation, under God, indivisible…” By taking their name from the Pledge of Allegiance, they hope the gullible will assume that this is a patriotic movement.
But the national No Kings web site features a long list of “partner” groups that are not exactly huge fans of the United States of America. Or capitalism, for that matter.
One has to wonder if the local protesters fully appreciate whose water they are carrying.
For the sake of humanity, let’s hope they don’t.
